The shelter was established back in 2001 by Sister Galina and her husband, Father Michael. Since his passing, she has taken the helm and dedicated her life to caring for more than 50 elderly individuals with disabilities. Here they receive shelter, medicine, and compassionate care. The shelter also provides care for people who lost their homes during the war, they share meals and companionship and attend chapel at the Sisterhood of St. Juliana Olshanskay.

Established in 1999, “The House of Mercy” has some 150+ residents. Headed by Abbess Seraphima, a renowned Orthodox journalist, writer and author. Mother Seraphima is directly involved in every aspect of the House of Mercy's operation. She personally oversees the preparation and distribution of meals and individual care.
Both, Mother Seraphima and Sister Galina have given their lives in altruistic service to others. Their dedication and compassion have a significant impact every day on the lives of all those in their care. And your giving helps them to keep doing this indispensable work.
2025 Fundraiser Updates
Thanks to the generosity of our community, we are grateful to share that the funds raised for Ukraine’s shelters have already been put to essential use. With your support, we were able to cover costs for the House of Mercy critical kitchen equipment helping the shelter prepare warm, nourishing meals each day and reliable generators that are ensuring that even during power outages there is an access to heat, lighting, and vital services. Mother Galina purchased 25 beds for migrants who lost their homes. These items are not just practical necessities, they bring comfort, safety, and dignity to people navigating unimaginable hardship.
Your support in 2024
enabled the House of Mercy to receive two new industrial washing machines, ensuring cleaner, safer living conditions. In addition, your contributions fully covered the St. Juliana Olshanskaya Shelter’s loan for a tractor and provided a vital supply of firewood, helping the shelter maintain its grounds and keep residents warm throughout the winter.
These may seem like simple necessities, but for the communities relying on these shelters, they are life-changing improvements. Because of you, over 200 people will experience greater comfort, stability, and dignity in their daily lives.
